WHAT IF YOU COULD ONLY OWN ONE CAR IN YOUR LIFE?
Imagine owning just one car in your entire life. You can repair it, but once it breaks down completely, you’ll never be able to drive again. How differently would you treat this car?
Your body is this car.
This parable made me think about my relationship with my body. Just like that car, we only get one body, and it’s up to us to take care of it, by truly honoring it.
Four years ago, I found myself in a cycle of unhealthy habits, where I was not treating my body with the respect it deserved. It was a period of my life where I was not at my best, and my well-being suffered as a result. I’ve been free from those habits for a year, but the fear of falling back into that state was what kept me away from it.
Recently, I felt a sudden urge to indulge in old habits again, which was strange because I knew it wasn’t good for me. I even justified it by reading about the potential benefits of moderation. For two days, I allowed myself a small indulgence with dinner, accepting my cravings but keeping them in check.
However, I noticed a slight decrease in my sleep quality and realized that this indulgence was disrupting my rest. My ego tried to brush it off by saying “it’s nothing to worry about” but then, during my morning meditation, I remembered the parable and the importance of honoring my body. It’s like that one car we get in life – we need to treat it with respect. This realization helped me reaffirm my commitment to taking care of myself and avoiding habits that harm my well-being.
