THE PASSING OF AKIRA TORIYAMA
Reflecting on the news of Akira Toriyama's passing, I find myself reminiscing about how Dragon Ball, and Goku in particular, have influenced my life since I was 7 years old. Goku taught me the importance of strength, curiosity, friendship, and unwavering focus on one’s own growth. Even though I haven't always lived up to these ideals perfectly, they've remained guiding principles in my life.
In Japan, we often hold great manga artists in high regard, almost viewing them as ascended masters because of the life lessons their stories impart. Akira Toriyama, much like Osamu Tezuka, didn't just entertain us; he taught us virtues through his characters and stories. Goku's adventures and growth were more than just a series to me; they were lessons in how to face life's challenges with a strong spirit, an open heart, and a commitment to those I care about.
Even though I say I haven't lived up to Goku's example, the truth is that his influence continually pushes me to strive for better. To be stronger in the face of adversity, to remain curious about the world and the people in it, and to value the friendships I've formed along the way. These lessons from Goku and Toriyama's world are things I carry with me, aiming to embody these virtues a little more each day.
